AviCom/Viador Data Warehouse Measures DoD eBusiness

Sunnyvale, Calif. (Market Wire), July 7, 2003. Tracking the performance of the Department of Defenses's eBusiness Exchange (DEBX) system -- the central processing point for all paperless financial transactions within the DoD -- required the development of a scalable data warehouse solution that could satisfy the performance and accountability requirements of a diverse stakeholder group, accommodate the complexity of the DoD electronic business environment, and keep pace with transaction volume of one of the world's busiest electronic commerce hubs. "We are pleased that the DEBX Metrics Data Mart (MDM) developed by AnviCom now has a track record of nearly a year of successful operation and is now keeping tabs on 30 million transactions per month," said Quan Hoang, CEO of AnviCom. "We are now migrating it to Oracle 9i with Viador's BI-Portal for even more functionality."

AnviCom designed and implemented the MDM based on Oracle technology and the Viador Business Intelligence Portal under contract with the Defense Information Systems Agency's eBusiness Engineering group. MDM must keep records and create reports based on the EDI transactions that flow through the DEBX system -- about 30 million transactions per month. MDM provides a single, consistent, and updated data source of all electronic business information sent across the Defense EC/EDI Infrastructure.

The MDM provides DISA's customers who include the Defense Contract Management Administration (DCMA) and Defense Automatic Addressing System Center (DAASC) with the ability to perform ad-hoc reporting and On-Line Analytical Processing analysis pertaining to DEBX system usage and performance and commerce measurements, and obtain metrics reports on transaction volumes by TS Sender/Receiver, DEBX Processing Center, and system. Several DISA customers are using the MDM to measure return on investment for DEBX feeder systems in Dayton, OH, Tracy, CA, Ogden, UT, and Columbus, OH. MDM enhancements underway will deliver end-to-end system metric reports to DCMA as well as new metrics reports for the Value Added Networks that are part of the DEBX pipeline. "AnviCom chose Viador for its unique ability to securely deliver the large volume of reports and analytics via the web for this demanding MDM application," said Stan Wang, CEO of Viador. "We are delighted to support AnviCom in their leading-edge government solutions."

In engineering this data warehouse solution, AnviCom had to overcome performance issues related to receiving vast amounts of data from four regional computing locations. AnviCom identified 25 out of the 300 X12 data elements upon which the data warehouse is based. AnviCom was awarded this project in July of 2001, and within six months, stood up the first phase of the successful system that exists today. The DEBX MDM became fully operational in October 2002.
